Often outdoor wood furniture ends up neglected during the non-summer months. Ideally, the furniture has remained covered or in a garage during the winter. However, during the time the furniture is outside, dirt and debris collect. Clean the furniture with a power washer or a hose with a strong sprayer attachment. Soapy water applied with a scrub brush can also help. Once it is completely dry, coat the furniture with a good quality wood oil to protect it.
Although wooden outdoor furniture is sturdy, it does need some protection now and again. Use a tablecloth during dinner, as this protects guests from splinters and it protects the table from potential spills. Covers keep the furniture clean and dry between uses. Look for fitted plastic covers to protect the furniture during periods on non-use.
